At Christmas time our elf, Pepito, is a big part of our Christmas season. The kids love waking up each morning and seeing what Pepito had been up to all night while they slept. We are always so sad to say goodbye to him and to put away our Christmas decorations at the end of the season. So when we got the invitation for some Christmas cheer in June, we couldn’t say no!

The kids love watching The Elf on the Shelf, An Elf’s Story on T.V. so much that we always DVR it so they can play it over and over again during Christmas. It’s become an anticipated family Christmas classic. They were excited to watch an exclusive preview of the newest addition to the Elf on the Shelf franchise, Elf Pets a Fox Cub’s Christmas Tale. First, I want to say that the kids were glued to the screen from beginning to end. I have a sizable age gap between Vie and the littles and all three were entertained the entire time. That alone is rare to find. They already are familiar with the characters, and love Santa and his scout Elves. The addition of the magical Fox cub was perfection. The movie introduced a character that the kids immediately were in love with. Who wouldn’t love a majestic arctic fox cub with rainbow eyes!? The music in the movie was fantastic. Personally, I really loved the story line and the explanation of why not all Christmas wishes are granted. The ultimate message of maintaining our hope and faith. I know this touching movie will be an instant classic this holiday season.

We were lucky enough to meet Chanda A. Bell at the screening and ask her questions about the movie and how it all came about. She told us a moving story of a little boy asking for special permission from Santa to bring his Scout Elf into his radiation treatments and how the Elf gave him the hope and faith that he needed to get him and his family through those difficult times when we are looking for answers to life sometimes difficult questions. It reminded me of our most difficult Christmas when my Dad passed away. As I was packing our stuff not knowing what to pack exactly or for how long to pack. With my mind racing, I didn’t give a second thought to bringing Pepito along. I knew that this would be the worst Christmas we would ever have and that in that moment Christmas magic was what the kids needed the most. He helped us hold onto hope and faith that a better day would come.

The movie runs about 28 minutes and I am sure it will be a new Christmas classic. I do wish they showed more diverse elves up in the North Pole. I would love it if ALL children could see themselves reflected in the Elf on the Shelf franchise, so that all kids could feel like a part of the story. The hope, faith and Christmas spirit that our Scout Elf and now our newly adopted Fox Cub Elf Pet bring to our home is a wonderful addition to Christmas holiday traditions of every culture.

A big thank you to Elf on the Shelf and Chanda A. Bell for inviting us to preview this movie! You can see a trailer on Facebook July 25th. The movie will be available for purchase on the Elf on the Shelf website for 9.99. I will leave a link to it here. It will also be available for download this Christmas season with release date yet to be announced.
