A LONG TIME AGO IN A GALAXY FAR, FAR, AWAY… a mother and daughter visited the planet of Batuu at the Galxy’s Edge. If you should find yourself in the Black Spire Outpost here is our list of tuu duu’s , tips and things we wished we would’ve done but will duu on our next trip to the Spire.
We were so lucky to snag a reservation time opening weekend! I was really afraid of the crowds but we were so excited to see everything that we were ready to brave the crowds. I studied other people’s visits prior to ours, like @magical_kinda_mama and took notes so I would be prepared to strategize!
We had an 8pm – 12am reservation time. We arrived early for check in at the Star Wars Launch Bay in Tomorrowland. I was surprised to find there was no line to check in! There were many cast members ready to help check in and all buzzing with excitement for our visit to Galaxy’s Edge. We loved getting our first glimpse of Batuu with a miniature model they had on display. Since we had a couple hours until our reservation time (and no babies to worry about!!), We headed for Space Mountain, where it is converted to HyperSpace Mountain with a Star Wars overlay! I had been so busy with the two littles, I hadn’t been on a roller coaster in YEARS. I thought this version of Space Mountain was fantastic! And it really got us excited for our visit to Batuu. Next, fully taking advantage of the no little kids, we rode Thunder Mountain where at the top of the famous goat drop, we caught the most amazing view of Galaxy’s Edge!!
“…it really feels like you’ve left Disneyland and have gone to a planet far, far, away.”
As soon as you walk in, it’s so hard not to get distracted with awe of everything. As you walk in the land, the transition of the sights and sounds from Critter Country and into Galaxy’s Edge is so subtle that it really feels like you’ve left Disneyland and have gone to a planet far, far, away. Oga’s Cantina was on my Tuu Duu list, so I tried my best to stay focused and headed there first! They have a virtual queue system, so you stand in line to put your name down. Only one person from your party needs to stand in line. The line was pretty long but it moved fast. Then you are free to roam until your number is called!
To further avoid lines, I mobile ordered from Ronto Roaster while we were waiting to be let in. I know, I’m a genius… After Oga’s check in line, we picked up a green milk and headed to Ronto’s to pick up our order! Then we sat to sample our first taste of Batuu cuisine! We tried the Ronto Wrap and the Sweet – Nuna Turkey Jerky. The wrap was excellent! It was a perfect on the go meal. The slaw on top of the sausage and shaved roasted pork was delicious! The Nuna Jerky was good too, but next time I will try the spicy version. I’m more of a spicy palate kind of girl. As far as the blue milk vs green milk controversy I will let you be your own judge on that. It’s definitely a must duu when in Batuu.
After our snack, we headed into the main event! Riding the Milennium Falcon in Smugglers Run! The line was about 30 minutes long but there is so much to look at and so many photo ops in the queue that the time went by so fast! You’re assigned a job on this mission, pilot, gunner or engineer. We both got to pilot on our first time! The ride is so fun and intense! Like an interactive, intimate, and more intense Star Tours. The ride varies depending on how well you do. I would not recommend sitting smaller children as pilots. The gunner has an auto option and the engineer has the least “work” to do. I would sit smaller kids on either of those positions. This ride is SO GOOD!
We then headed into the shops. We went into the droid shop first. I am usually pretty good about saying no to souvenirs but when you walk in there It’s like, “please, take my money!” the shop is incredible with all the driod parts passing by you over head and on the conveyer belt in front of you. There is no choice but to succumb and choose whether you’ll be taking home a B series or and R series. We made our choice and we went to work. The Disney magic involved in bringing the droid to life is something else. The droids are 99$ each (either B or R series. 107 with tax. No AP discounts apply) you can also upgrade your droid with a personality chip for 14.99
**A retrospective tip for families with small children… the R series seems much sturdier than the B series. We brought home a B series droid and its head flies off anytime it crashes into anything. It’s only held on by a magnet. It still works fine but who knows how much longer!
After we took our droid named it BB-24601 on a stroll to peruse the other shops. (Ha ha! Her Les Mis obsession coming through) As you walk through the land the droid interacts with other droids and different places! We wandered into the creature shop and its really something to see! The creatures are so cute and creepy its really another world! The toy shop has the cutest toys. There are adorable plushes and the cutest wooden and tin millennium falcons that made my vintage loving heart skip a beat!
After the shops, we went back on Smugglers Run the wait was only 20 minutes and seemed to decrease as it got later. This time we were both engineers and as we were exiting, I received a text to return to the cantina! We headed to Oga’s Cantina and we waited just a few minutes until we were let in. In order to keep things moving, you don’t get to pick where you sit. Due to its popularity, they let groups in according to section. Your time is limited to 45 min and a two drink max per person to keep the crowds moving and allow more people to go in. We were assigned one side of the bar, I saw some booths and bar tables. I imagine as crowds decrease your chances of sitting will increase.
For now, we were just excited and feeling lucky to be in there. I didn’t research the menu before going in and did not have a plan. Every drink and food item is so interesting and seriously looks like it’s from another planet. I can imagine how fun the development was for all this food! I really went for it and ordered the Yue Nue. It is a tropical drink with an excessive amount of ice but it comes with the most amazing souvenir Endor Mug! Also its 42$ but I justified it by how awesome the mug was and amazing it was to sit in that bar with D.J. R3X playing galactic hits! They have a big selection of non-alcoholic drinks too. Vie tried the Jabba Juice because she loves popping boba but wished she had ordered the carbon freeze. The carbon freeze is served in a freeze dried cup that makes the boba jump all over your drink! We also tried Oga’s obsession because the look it was just insane. It is a tray with popping boba inside gelatin and pop rock candy on top! So so fun! After the bar, we had just enough time to ride Millenium falcon just one more time before our time in Batuu was up.
Leaving Galaxys Edge left me lost in a place I know like the back of my hand. We walked out into Frontier Land and I was left not knowing where I was or who I was! Galaxy’s Edge is a beautiful completely immersive land that truly feels worlds away. I walked out feeling like we did the most for our time there. Disney did such a great job controlling the crowds, that I came away feeling like we did mostly all. But there are just a few things we missed and will duu on our next trip to Batuu…
- Eat at Docking Bay 7 Food and Cargo specifically, the smoked ribs, the Tip Yip, Noodle Salad and the Batuu-Bon.
- Go back to the droid store and get that Batuuan Spira Disney Gift Card. I didn’t even know that existed when I went and I wish I had!!!
- Blue milk. And then try mixing them.
- Gunner position on the Millennium Falcon!
I hope our experience in Batuu will help guide your future expeditions into Galaxy’s Edge!
Until the Spire!!!
