Yesterday I took a photo of my coffee and posted in my stories. I was a little, err- embarrassed to post the picture of my favorite mug. It’s a little worn from so much love and harsh scrubbing. So, today I drank my coffee in a nicer ceramic mug instead of my usual worn travel mug. I took another photo and when I looked at the image it looked picture perfect. I used the portrait mode on my camera so the image and the angle perfectly blurred all the dishes in the sink from breakfast and my hand whipped foam looked just delightful…
Then, when I went to post it I realized that I don’t want you to think that I live with a clear counter. I have 3 kids eating, rushing through to and from school. My counter, although I’d love to be clutter free, ALWAYS has something cluttering one space or another. It’s my reality. It’s real life here. For a few reasons…
- Sometimes I just want to live. I want to sit. I want to NOT be cleaning something sometimes and so I just let it be. It’s totally allowed. Try it. Your people probably won’t even notice.
- I don’t want to be nagging people to clean up their shit all the time because the hours a day that I see Vie and my husband are not many. I’d rather save the nagging for the weekend when I’m sick of seeing them.
- It’s more exciting when someone comes to visit you and you speed clean in 20 minutes. I like living on the edge.
In the end, my worn out mug keeps my coffee warmer longer. I’ve already had to warm my coffee two times and I’m really annoyed by that. The worn out travel mug works for ME. My house with toys as décor and strewn about works for ME – right now. Stuff on my counters and dishes in the sink are just a way of life right now and that’s okay. I’d love to have a perfectly curated life but I don’t and that’s ok. It works for me right now – the kids would just destroy it anyway. They’re savage AF.
“picture perfect…”
