Spring has sprung and the flowers are in full bloom! Here are my 3 favorite places where you can enjoy a Spring romp through fields of fresh blooms…

The Flower Fields in Carlsbad

Stroll through nearly 50 acres of colorful giant Tecolote Ranunculus. The flowers bloom from early March through early May. Bring your cameras for photo ops galore! We have visited two years in a row! The view is just incredible, plus there are lots of activities for the whole family like panning for gem stones and a playground for littles! There are snacks sold on site and you can even take home ranunculus to enjoy at home long after your visit at the Armstrong Garden Center on site. Tickets start at $10 for children and $22 for adults. You need advanced tickets and reservations made online. You can click here for tickets and more information.

Antelope Valley Poppy Reserve Super Bloom in 2010. * you should not do this and stay on the trails.. but I love this picture.

Antelope Valley California Poppy Reserve

This is a State Natural Reserve so the blooms depend on how much rain we get. On particularly rainy years we get a super bloom that is just the most incredible sight! There is a $10 parking fee per vehicle. Only active recreation is permitted such as walking hiking, running and watching wildlife on the trails only. The reserve is open from 8 am to 5 pm. Keep in mind poppies open mid-morning with the warm sun and close late afternoon as the sun sets, you won’t see as many on overcast days so check the weather! The good news is that the Poppy reserve has a live webcam, so you can peek at the poppies before you drive out there! Click here to check the live webcams!

Descanso Gardens Bloom Boom!

Descanso Gardens in La Cananda Flintridge, is the only one on this list that is technically in L.A. County! Descanso Gardens are beautiful and picturesque all year long, but in Spring the garden bursts with color! The tulips push up and March is the prime month to see these seasonal beauties! Spend the day wandering through the various gardens. The gardens are free to visit for members, for non-members tickets start at $5 for children 5-12 and $15 for adults. You can learn more and purchase advance tickets online here.
