You don’t have to go into the Disney parks to have a magical day! One of our favorite staycation destinations are the Disneyland Resort hotels. Particularly, The Disneyland Hotel! The hotel has been closed for over 15 months and we were fortunate enough to snag an opening day reservation. It was the perfect way to celebrate Zoe’s 6th birthday! I’ll tell you more about how we can afford to stay at Disney Resorts in a bit. First let me tell you what to expect when staying at the Disneyland Hotel right now….

Rooms: Disneyland Hotel did not take their closure for granted! We were thrilled to find newly refurbished rooms with an updated Mid Century Modern feel and fireworks shooting across the carpet! The only thing I missed was the “A dream is a wish..” decorative toss pillows on the bed. Currently the only tower open is the Fantasy Tower so rooms are limited. My booking tip, is to save money and book a “standard view” yes, you overlook the parking lot but beyond that you can see Disneyland Park and the nightly fireworks are sure to make your bedtime magical! If you miss the Disneyland fireworks, don’t worry, the headboard will lull you to sleep with the magical fiber optic fireworks and “A Dream is A Wish Your Heart Makes” lullaby hidden in the headboard!

Dining : Currently the only dining available on the resort property is Tangaroa Terrace, Tangaroa Bar and Grill, Trader Sam’s and the Coffee Shop. Goofy’s Kitchen remains closed and there are rumors that Steakhouse 51 will not reopen, at least not how we knew it before. Aside from dinner in Downtown Disney, we ate all our meals at Tangaroa Terrace and we were not mad about it! The food is SO GOOD with a Hawaiian tropical vibe, it really made our stay feel like we were on vacation! Trader Sam’s is very popular and the standby wait can get very long. They offer a virtual queue that alerts you when its your time to return. If you are ok with not going inside, you can order the exact same drinks at the Tangaroa Bar and you can even order the drinks at the pool however, without the souvenir ceramic cups.

Pool : The Disneyland Hotel pool is arguably the best pool area of the 3 Disneyland Resort Hotels. This is the main attraction for us! The pool here offers 3 different sized waterslides for all levels of water thrills. My kids are content spending all day sliding down those monorail themed slides! There are also two regular pools and a Mickey and Minnie spa. The pool area offers full pool side service with excellent waitstaff that will bring you eats and drinks from Tangaroa Terrace right to your poolside lounger! The Disneyland Hotel is also the only place you can find Dole Whips outside of the park!

Normally you can visit with your favorite characters throughout the resort but currently, there are no character sightings. There is also some construction by the pool for the upcoming Disney Vacation Club Villas, which I am so excited for! That  brings me to how we can afford to stay on Disney property so freely and often, our secret is Disney Vacation Club! We have been members since 2005 and have zero regrets! DVC has allowed our family to travel to places far beyond Walt Disney World and Disneyland Resort too!

If you have questions about our stay or about DVC comment down below! I am always happy to help you plan your Disney vacations or staycations like this!
