Halloween week is finally here!

Here at home, we are spooking our halls and putting finishing touches on our costumes. Every year, for 11 years, our home is the designated Halloween house among our family and friends. We celebrate with festive eats and drinks. The kids trick or treat and we come back to the house for a costume contest and more treats!  Although I thought about turning this year’s party into a MASK-erade, I suppose not having a party at all would be the responsible thing to do. So instead we are celebrating at home. The kids have put together a must do list that will keep our night fun and full of treats!

Last week we previewed new toys coming out for the holidays (more on that later)… But, we spotted one game that we thought would be perfect for a Halloween indoors. This new board game by Funko takes you through every room in the Haunted Mansion! You visit each room collecting “Happy Haunts” The game is recommended for ages 8 and up. It’s for 2 – 6 players and it looks so fun and perfectly spooky. I will link it here.

I also found these Haunted Mansion playing cards at the Disney Store that I think are so cute and also very festive for Halloween at home. I will link them here.

I came across this great idea from Studio DIY. It’s a scavenger hunt for Halloween decorations! You can print it out and take a drive around your neighborhood looking for these items and hand out candy for each one that you spot.  Though it was such a great idea and the printable is just so cute I had to share it here.

The kids have come up with various solutions to substitute Trick-or-Treating here at home. There is having various treat spots throughout the house, sitting behind interior doors as they come around for treats, or a treat hunt that plays out much like an Easter egg hunt. While we figure this out, I thought I’d share with you one of my own DIY crafty treats!

This Oogie is super easy to sew and it makes the perfect treat holder. I personally like to stuff it with bugs and have them hanging around the house. The pattern is my own. I created it myself. I am sharing the PDF with you. If you love it and want to share please do! Just send them this way for credit.

Sewing instructions:

  1. Cut one of each piece. I used green felt
  2. Sew A to B with fabric right side up. Using a zig zag stich connect the two leaving an opening to fill Oogie with later.
  3. Put both pieces right sides facing each other and sew all around inside out.
  4. Using the opening, turn right side out. Use a black fabric pen (or a sharpie!) to draw on Oogies face. You can draw your own or copy mine!
  5. Fill up with your treat or trick of choice!

I hope you enjoy this treat this Halloween among this very tricky year.

Happy Halloween!!!
