I think the question I get asked the most is, “Are you from Oklahoma?” The answer is… No! I was born and raised in L.A. Here’s what happened… My Dad had always dreamt to own a farm, so after I graduated high school, he made the bold move to follow his dreams and move the family to Oklahoma. By the time they sold their house here in L.A., I was already in my first year of college so, I stayed behind. My dad eventually acquired not one, but TWO cattle farms on hundreds of acres of land! But that’s a story of hard work and perseverance that I’ll leave for another day. The short of it, is that since my family lives there now, I spend a lot of time visiting to see them. My favorite things to do there have changed throughout the years in my time there before kids and now with the kids. I thought it was time I wrote down my official top things to see and do in Oklahoma City with kids.

OKC Zoo
The Oklahoma City Zoo is one of the best Zoo’s we’ve visited. It has expanse grounds of 119 acres with enclosures that allow you and your kids an up close view of over 500 different species. Aside from the classic Giraffe and Flamingo feeding, you will also find Camel rides and a children’s area with a Splash Zone perfect for the incredibly hot and humid Oklahoma summers. This Zoo is incredibly cared for and loved by locals and you can see every dollar spent on the remodeled areas. Enclosures for each animal are well cared for and are appropriately sized. Currently, the center of the zoo is under construction for the upcoming Expedition Africa slated to open in Spring 2023. We are excited to see the new Flamingo and Giraffe enclosures and we will definitely be back to see it!

Children’s Garden / Myriad Gardens
The Children’s Garden at the Myriad Gardens is a fun place to let your kids explore and run free! They have a carousel that you can ride for a small fee but, what my kids enjoyed the most is the huge splash pad. Surrounded by the buildings downtown it makes for a stunning afternoon spent playing.

Scissortail Park

As if the Myriad Gardens wasn’t enough beauty downtown OKC now also has Scissortail Park! A 70 acre urban oasis on the shore of the Oklahoma River. There are trails to walk, playgrounds and splash pads for the kids. There are food trucks as well as two quick dining locations to grab a bite to eat and maybe a popsicle to cool you down. Grab a book from the free little library and find a nice spot to read and take in this urban oasis!

Mix Tape at Factory Obscura
If you are a fan of the Meow Wolf exhibits, you are in luck, OKC now has its own! Factory Obscura has collaborated with Meow Wolf to create Mix Tape! A fun and immersive art exhibit that brings out the kid in everyone. Have fun and explore in a place where you can expect the unexpected. You can see our own experience at Mix Tape HERE!

Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark
This is a must for any L.A. Dodgers fanatic! Catch a game of the minor league Dodgers in OKC! Check the schedule for special promo nights and make sure you have enough space in your suitcase to bring home a bat sized Dodger mug!!

Blue Zoo

Blue Zoo in OKC is a full on aquarium tucked into the Quail Springs Mall! I did not expect to find so many different animals and so many hands on opportunities IN A MALL. Absolutely worth your time and price of admission. Keep an eye out for mermaids in the mermaid lagoon!

Sam Noble Museum

This Natural History Museum at the OU campus in Norman is worth the drive! So much to see and explore. Very kid oriented with lots to touch and explore! Do no miss the largest Triceratops fossil ever found! Truly an impressive sight!

I hope you enjoy your time in OKC and discover something new! Let me know if this was helpful and if you’ve been to any of these places in comments! I’d love to hear your experience!
